Description:
Do you want to try something different? Do you like being outside and being healthy? Want to discover the yogi in you? Well come join our adventurous group! We will teach you the basics and maybe even some advanced yoga poses in a classroom setting, as well as an outdoor setting. In our project, we have three main topics that we want to teach. These topics are on yoga, healthy living, and how to connect with nature.
Yoga is a amazing tool to teach youth, there are so many positive outcomes that come from yoga. Yoga can help relive stress, boost immune systems, increases sleep, posture, energy levels, balance and self esteem. Yoga has helped people who have cancer, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Yoga also helps individuals become more driven, goal orientated, and gives the feel good factor. Yoga is for everyone, boy or girl, and can help many people of all ages.
We teach our yoga poses in nature to better connect youth to their natural world. When we practice we hear birds, the wind in the trees and feel the earth beneath our feet. We become more one with nature. It seems that our world is over-run with technology, we want to bring members back to the basics. We have fun and many trips planned, like meditating under the stars, trying paddle board yoga on the Sacramento river, or hiking to the base of a waterfall and feeling the mist on your skin as we learn poses. We practice outside and connect better to nature. Recently there have been many studies on the Nature-Deficit Disorder in our children and we would like our members in this project not to have this disorder. So come out with us and try yoga.
We address healthy living by doing yoga as a exercise as well as hiking. We are planning on a having a couple meetings on how to eat mindfully and how to prepare healthy snacks as well as alternative options. Yoga is a form of a healthy lifestyle and we want to teach our youth more about it.
We also teach all levels from beginning too advanced in yoga. We ask that the 4-h members keep a journal of their personal goals and feelings after each practice. This will help the 4-hers learn more about themselves as well as help them to achieve their goals for the year. We will have around two meetings a month so you can learn the poses and get ready for our end of the year trip!
Cost:
Cost in minimal, however each 4-Her needs his or her own yoga mat and appropriate comfortable athletic attire, as well as a journal (for personal goals). Prices for yoga mats: Ross: $10-15, Target: $12.99, Walmart starting at $10, Mountain Sports: Pranya $48, Big 5: $9.99-40.
Meetings
Will typically be around every two weeks in various locations in Chico and surrounding areas, which will be announced at Lone Pines general meetings. You can also find a tentative schedule on the adventure in nature page.
